The M30 / M3 motorway connects directly to the city center.

Higher education

University of Miskolc

One of the region’s most established higher education institutions is the University of Miskolc. Its technical faculties have internationally recognized teaching staff, and its students achieve strong academic and research results every year.

The University has a long tradition in education and student life. Its legal predecessor was founded in 1735 in Banská Štiavnica, in present-day Slovakia. After several moves, it was finally relocated to Miskolc as an institution already known and respected across Europe.

The University’s technical, earth science and materials science courses are recognized worldwide and provide a strong talent base for manufacturing companies. The city, the University and major local employers have developed dual training programmes at secondary and tertiary levels. Bosch, Joyson, Hell and Wanhua are among the local companies participating in these programmes.

The Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering has a strong research and development profile, with patents and collaborations with organisations such as the European Space Agency and NASA. In response to regional demand from industries including chemicals and automotive, the University has also launched specialised chemical and automotive engineering courses. Its health, economics, law and healthcare specialisations are also well established.

Graduates from these faculties contribute to the success of businesses and public administration in the city and region.

The University’s Confucius Institute offers Chinese language and cultural training and organises events and internship programmes as the Chinese Educational and Cultural Center of Northeast Hungary. In recent years, Miskolc and its partners have also strengthened primary and secondary education.

Vocational and adult education

The Miskolc Vocational Training Center has 11 member institutions and provides training shaped by local economic needs. Its offer spans technical fields, business and management, beauty and social services, and tourism, for both young people and adults.

The Miskolc Adult Training Center delivers vocational qualifications registered in the National Qualifications Register, competence-based courses and language training, primarily for employees of Miskolc Holding companies. It currently works with several multinational companies in the region, either case by case or through framework agreements, supporting them from training-needs assessment through programme design and delivery.

Adult training is flexible and tailored to employer needs.

International education

Schools for international families

Avalon International School opened in September 2019 as the first foundation-run private school and kindergarten in Miskolc and the region. Following the Cambridge system, it offers education for children aged 3–15 on a campus of about 5,000 square metres, with facilities and digital learning tools designed to meet contemporary educational needs.

The Bosch German School accepts applications from children of Bosch and SEG Automotive employees, as well as other compulsory-school-age children who are native or near-native German speakers.
